He looks back towards her again.

"You know, this job really doesn't pay at all very well..."

Clears her throat softly and then arches a brow, "Yours or mine?"

He opens his mouth to say something, but her specific phrase reminds him of something from the past.

His smile fades, his mouth closes...and his mind drifts into the past.

Watching his smile fade, her brows draw in together and she takes a step closer, worried. "Murphy?"

He thinks back to the blue woman. She had been struck by Eros' arrow, or so he had concluded. She'd touched him and kissed him and tried so very hard to be intimate with him...

In a very dark, robotic tone, and after a good little bit of time, he replied.

"Sorry...I..."

She looked at him, quiet for a moment as she tried to figure out where his mind had gone and what suddenly bothered him. "You were talking about someone's job not paying very much."

[identity profile] cpu-001.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
His mind returned to stride as though it had never left, and he smiled.

"Yes. Even if I had pockets, they'd be empty."

"And I'm not sure I want to know how you make ends meet," he said with concern.

She shot him a little bit of a look, "King dates a lot of older men." It was a common answer and a joke. "We have some funding. My father had saved up quite a bit and...well, there is some very generous people out there that were happy when we saved them." She nodded her head.

He blinks before he realizes it's a joke. Then his face lightens.

"A woman tried to pay me with spare parts one time," he looks away, feigning injury.

"Guess it would ease up on the other taxpayers."

"What did your father do?"

She kept her features straight as she looked up at him and then chuckled when he finally caught on that she was just kidding.

"Really?" She arched a brow, "What the..." Just shook her head.

"He was a hunter too but he somehow made money." She shrugged her shoulders a bit, "I think sometimes they looted the places that they hunted."
